I might be the real life Ba Hum Bug

I usually love the holidays. But I'm not really looking forward to them this year and I can't really explain why. I haven't put up a tree or hung up lights. I only bought presents yesterday for my skating students (I gave them books!) but have yet to buy presents for my family, skating coach, or Sarcastically Delicious.
I think it may be because I'm working too much these days. When the day is over all I want to do is veg, and thinking about Christmas just reminds me of all the things I should be doing to make it a holly jolly good time. Bah!
I think me and Scrooge should hole up somewhere and just have a ba hum bugiriffic time.

Will post more writerly thoughts tomorrow. Stay tuned for the scoop on my other agent review.

  2. The benefit of having a part-time job at a store in a mall is I managed to get most of my holiday shopping done while I was on break from there. That said, of course, my wife did purchase the joint family presents for my parents, her parents, and her sister and sister's fiance. So that cut out a bunch of folks I had to worry about.

It's also useful that I don't work on Sundays. Ever.

P.S. Award for you at FtP!

  3. I ditto your sentiments, Anita. There's something very anti-climatic about this year... perhaps it's b/c it'll be one of the few my wife and I will be spending by ourselves (i.e., not visiting family or them visiting us).

  4. I think the family visiting thing has something to do with it as well. My immediate family is always together for the holidays. But this year, my brother is in dental school in Oklahoma and he'll be unable to to make it home for the holidays. He has to study for boards and attend review sessions- yuck. It'll be the first Christmas without my immediate family together. It's kind of a bummer.

  5. I was there last year. But this year, I'm ALL about Christmas. I can't wait. I feel like a little kid.

I think it comes and goes, perhaps.

  6. I don't think you're a bah humbug. Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ, spending time with family and counting blessings. It sounds like you're a bit sad because the family component is missing.

Perhaps you could schedule a belated celebration with your brother after his boards. Then, when you shop, you will have something to look forward to.

Wishing you the best for the hoiday season.

  7. Some years the excitement hits later than others. It'll come. :)

I hopped over from the link at Free the Princess - Matt has some great things to say about you.

  8. I can sympathise with bah humbug -- I've got to do all my christmas shopping tomorrow!

I'm sorry to hear that your Christmas won't be complete.

  9. I'm a humbug and proud of it. I sympathize, though. There are so many expectations around The Joyous Season, so much pressure to be jolly, to buy the right gifts.

Christmas is not my cup of tea. I like Halloween better, actually.

  10. Andrea- my bro is coming down Jan 2 to take his boards. So we'll definitely hang then

Terry- Halloween is ok. I think if I had a costume party or two to go to it would be more fun

  12. I'm with Terry, Christmas has too many expectations. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Family and friends can get together to eat, drink and be merry without any pressure.

    Hallows Eve is fun too:)

  13. Being ultra-busy can zap the Xmas spirit. I'm sure once you take a breath it'll pop right back for you!
